How will COVID-19 affect Price Transparency?
January 13, 2021What if hospitals do not comply with the Price Transparency Rule?
January 27, 2021As per the new price transparency rule that was ordered to be made functional by January 1, 2021. All hospitals across the United States (US) will have to provide the patients with all records involving the services that they have availed and the bills that they are paying.
Here is how hospitals are handling the price transparency rule in 2021:
Making the information publicly available
The first and the foremost requirement, in order for hospitals to comply with the new price transparency rule is to make sure that all the information is publically available for anyone to access on the website. This being in the terms of the services that they have been given or the bill that they have to pay to the hospital. Data should be user-friendly so that the public does not have any issues in accessing the information that they are now entitled to.
Have a value added story
According to many healthcare experts and strategists, it is important that hospitals have a value added story prepared. This being to make sure that the policy is being properly implemented and they are following the orders of the court when dealing with patients. This is only the beginning of the pressure that hospitals, in both the public and private sectors are going to experience now. In this regard, hospitals need to be more proactive and stay extra vigilant.
Follow the rule in accordance with the law
One thing that hospitals and the administration needs to keep in mind is the fact that the new price transparency rule has been passed to make things more transparent in the healthcare services industry. Even after hospitals have appealed against the new policy, they need to start making a framework to implement the new price transparency rule now, in accordance with the rule of law.
Go over the business model
In many hospitals, be it in the public or private sector, administrators and leaders running these healthcare facilities are not taking the order of the court too seriously and are not following it already. Hospitals need to reassess their business models and improve how they have been running their organizations for many years now. They would have to make amendments as per the new rule.
Start looking for vendors
Hospitals need to make sure to have the right kind of people to do the job i.e. people in the IT department who can make all the data available for the public and patients to easily use. Data should be put on the hospitals website, along with all the services and pricing details.
As hospitals become more tech-savvy, there is a need to hire more 3rd party professionals to get a better working strategy in this regard.
